Jardim Botânico

On our second full day in Rio we decided to visit the botanical garden which came highly recommended. The garden dates from the early 1800s and makes for an interesting 2-3 hour visit. Several of the main paths are lined with rows of very tall palm trees; sculptures, fountains and a small lake add to the experience. The orquidá housing 600 species of orchids and the bromeliad greenhouse were the highlights of the park for us. It was very hot and humid (heat factor of 112°F) as we made our way through the park on the suggested route. I'll let the pictures do the talking.......

Upon leaving the park we stopped at a small French boulangerie, la bicyclette, for lunch and ended up eating breakfast! Café au lait, pain au raisin, and pain au chocolat hit the spot.

  1. Love the orchids growing in the tropics - the phalaenopsis are actually from Asia...

  2. RA said an orchid picture would get a comment from you and she was right. Which one is the phalaenopsis? There was also a nice display of orchids in the Crystal Palace in Petrópolis.
